NYCT orders 90 Nova low-floor buses
Contract requires supplier to provide the Nova LFS buses in three different configurations, to assess the various transmission and cooling technologies available.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's New York City Transit (NYCT) placed an order for a test fleet of 90 40-foot Nova LFS vehicles. The buses will be assembled in Nova Bus' upstate New York plant and delivered in the first half of 2011.
NYCT contract requires Nova Bus to provide the Nova LFS buses in three different configurations, to assess the various transmission and cooling technologies available.
"A contract is a win-win situation, because not only does it benefit New Yorkers downstate who get to ride these Nova buses, but more importantly this creates good-paying jobs right here in Plattsburgh," said U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-NY). "The MTA is now a repeat customer with Nova, and this new contract reaffirms that Nova is a first-class facility doing great work in Plattsburgh."
Along with a $25 million private investment to construct the 140,000 square foot facility in 2009, Nova Bus' presence in the North Country has led to the creation of more than 200 direct jobs and brought five suppliers to establish facilities in the area, generating an additional 250 jobs.
