Dallas’ DART honored for rail design-build projects

The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) recognized Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) with its "2011 Transportation Owner of the Year Award."

The agency received the award on March 29 at the DBIA's Design-Build Transportation Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

DART is being honored for making significant contributions in advancing awareness, understanding and use of the design-build project delivery method in the transportation sector with 47 percent of its projects, by contract value, performed under the practice over the past three years.

The featured projects include the agency's first design-build projects for the Orange Line and Blue Line light rail in Irving and Rowlett. DART's use of design-build has grown to include another Orange Line project to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Airport and compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facilities for a new CNG bus fleet.
