SFMTA board member dies

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors, which oversees all surface transportation including the Municipal Railway (Muni), announced the passing of SFMTA Board member Cameron Beach.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of a close friend and colleague, who had an unparalleled passion for Muni, our customers and the future of this system," said Chairman of the SFMTA Board of Directors Tom Nolan. "Director Beach has been a pillar of transit expertise and insight on our board and it has been a privilege to know and work with him over these years."

"I've known Director Beach for decades, and his strong passion for public transit has made significant improvements to the industry," said Executive Director/CEO Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. "His transit expertise will not only be missed here in San Francisco but across this nation. Our heartfelt condolences are with his family during this time."

Beach, principal of Beach Consulting — a San Francisco-based consulting firm — joined the SFMTA's board in March 2007. His career in transportation spanned 44 years including 25 years with the Sacramento Regional Transit District. Director Beach's committee and board memberships also include serving as Chair of California Operation Lifesaver; Past Chair of the American Public Transportation Association's (APTA) Light Rail Committee; Vice Chair of APTA's Committee on Public Safety; and Member of the APTA Alternate Fuels Committee, the APTA Heritage Streetcar Subcommittee and the APTA Light Rail Transit Technical Forum.
