MILWAUKEE — Less than four months after refusing to take most of an $810 million grant for high-speed rail, Gov. Scott Walker is now seeking federal money to upgrade the existing Milwaukee-to-Chicago passenger line, according to the Journal Sentinel.
On Tuesday, Gov. Walker's administration announced that the state will seek at least $150 million to add equipment and facilities for Amtrak's Hiawatha line. Walker said the money would be used to upgrade service on the Hiawatha line, as a step toward increasing the speed of the trains to nearly 110 mph and reducing the trip time from 90 minutes to one hour, according to the report.
Some of the money that Gov. Walker is now seeking was originally allocated for the Milwaukee-to-Madison route he previously turned down. For the full story, click here.
