Bombardier to supply Australia with electric trains
Will provide and maintain 22 Bombardier 25kV three-car electric trains for approximately $278 million. The rail vehicles will be the first in Australia to meet new international crash standard specifications.
Bombardier Transportation received an order from the Government of South Australia for the supply and maintenance of 22 Bombardier 25kV three-car electric trains. The contract is valued at approximately $278 million.
The vehicles, known locally as A-City, will be built at Bombardier’s Dandenong (Victoria) and Maryborough (Queensland) manufacturing facilities, with revenue service commencing in 2013.
Designed specifically for Adelaide, this vehicle is a 240-seat train with a robust design and state of the art technology, including Bombardier Mitrac propulsion and control system and Bombardier Flexx bogies. The A-City will be the first rail vehicle in Australia to meet the stringent new international crash standard specifications.
In South Australia, Bombardier currently maintains the diesel rail car fleet and also supplies Bombardier Flexity Classic LRVs. Bombardier’s Dandenong manufacturing facility has existing orders for the supply of V/Locity DMUs and Flexity Melbourne trams to the Victorian Government.
