New Chicago Transit Authority chief named

CHICAGO — On Tuesday, Chicago Mayor-Elect Rahm Emanuel named Forrest Claypool as the new president of the Chicago Transit Authority. Claypool, a veteran of Chicago's City Hall, is a longtime from of Emanuel's and served on his transportation transition committee in the month leading up to the Mayor being sworn in, reported Constructiondigital.com.

The following is a bio of Forrest Claypool:

Forrest Claypool served two terms as Cook County Commissioner. As Commissioner, he spearheaded whistleblower legislation to help crack down on fraud, led the fight against waste and excessive taxes, and championed healthcare reforms that are making primary care more accessible to Cook County residents. Claypool is also a former Superintendent of the Chicago Park District. At the Park District, he successfully streamlined the budget, rooted out waste and abuse, lowered taxes and increased programs for families and kids across the city.

During his long career in public service, Claypool has served as Illinois’ Deputy State Treasurer, Deputy Commissioner of the Cook County Board of (Property Tax) Appeals, and as Chief of Staff to Mayor Richard M. Daley. Claypool graduated from Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois College of Law.
