MCI hosts Illinois Congressman
Prior to departing, Rep. Joe Walsh toured the latest editions of MCI's D4500 Commuter and J4500 touring coaches.
U.S. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), 8th district, visited Motor Coach Industries' (MCI) Schaumburg, Ill., corporate offices in April. As a new member of the 112th Congress, the visit was part of his effort to learn more about the people and companies that comprise his district.
At the invitation of MCI, Rep. Walsh welcomed the opportunity to gain insight into the company and the industry. MCI provided the Congressman with background information on its products, capabilities, customer base and positions on various regulatory and legislative items.
Michael Melaniphy, vice president of MCI's Public Sector, explained the linkage between the federal government, bus OEMs, suppliers and operators as well as the critical role that motorcoach transportation plays in the larger social and economic fabric of the country. Melaniphy highlighted how the use of public private partnerships and federal programs are leveraged to connect citizens to jobs, schools and medical appointments.
MCI also invited a local supplier of coach electrical harnesses to speak about his business challenges. The Congressman, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access, said he is committed to helping small businesses succeed presented his position on issues facing the nation.
Rep. Walsh then held a mini "Town Hall" style meeting where he took questions from a cross section of MCI employees. He suggested that everyone can make a difference in government by voting, being well-informed and getting involved in action groups.
Prior to departing, Congressman Walsh toured the latest editions of MCI's D4500 Commuter and J4500 touring coaches.
