WebTech Wireless Inc., provider of vehicle fleet location-based services and telematics technology, signed a two-year contract with Oceanside, Calif.-based North County Transit District (NCTD) to implement a NextBus Real-Time Passenger Information System (RTPIS) for all of the NCTD's fixed-route transit services.

The NCTD will implement NextBus RTPIS on its three fixed-route services — BREEZE transit buses, COASTER commuter trains and SPRINTER light rail. Buses will use an existing GPS location data feed, while NextBus will install GPS suites that include vehicle logic units, dual-band antennae and all cabling on the COASTER and SPRINTER rail services.

In addition, NextBus will install LCD and LED signs and kiosks at selected stops and NCTD's transit centers, with the goal of providing users with highly accurate, system-wide, bus and train arrival information.

The NCTD provides public transportation to North San Diego County, Calif., providing more than 12.5 million passenger trips per year through four modes: BREEZE buses, COASTER commuter trains, SPRINTER light rail and LIFT paratransit.
