Ill. Gov. pushes for universal transit fare card

CHICAGO — Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation requiring area transit agencies to come up with a universal fare card by 2015, the Chicago Tribune reported. The legislation has been discussed by transit agencies and demanded by riders for several years. 

Reasons cited by transit experts regarding why the fare cards have been slow to take hold include the inability of the transit agencies to cooperate, ever-changing ticket-taking technology, and Metra's fare structure. For the full story, click here.
