West Va. U. to upgrade personal rapid transit system

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University's (WVU) Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system is getting a $19 million makeover after 35 years of service, according to WVNS59 News.

As part of the PRT's refurbishment, Bombardier Transport will provide a new propulsion unit. The unit controls the electrical motor that's underneath the vehicle, enabling riders to notice the system's ramped up electrical power.

The upgrades are being paid for by the PRT WVU, and a small grant from the Federal Transit Administration. They hope to get automatic train controls in the next four years. For the full story, click here.
