King County Metro refuses to run public health ad

SEATTLE — King County Metro Transit will not run public service announcements from Public Health Seattle & King County that poses questions about stores stocking tobacco and sugary drinks instead of healthier items such as fruit, KPLU National Public Radio reported.

The agency says the advertisements violate its new policy regarding public service announcements, which prohibits ads that express a viewpoint on “matters of public debate about economic, political, religious or social issues.”  The policy was created in response to a huge controversy last December, when pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli groups faced off over advertisements on the sides of buses.
