ATLANTA — The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that even if next year's transportation referendum passes, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will still face $2.3 billion in unfunded maintenance needs over the next decade, chief executive Beverly Scott told state lawmakers. Next year voters will decide whether to raise their sales tax by one penny for 10 years to fund a $6 billion wish list of transportation projects.
Still, Scott and lawmakers hope that other changes can be made to bolster MARTA's ability to spend money, including a change in the portion of Atlanta sales tax that can be used for transit funding. For the full story, click here.
