Canada college adds buses for enrollment spike, but contends with costs

SOUTHERN ONTARIO, Canada — To accommodate a significant increase in enrollment, Niagara College's Niagara-on-the-Lake campus student administrative council reached an agreement with St. Catharines Transit to increase service on an as-needed basis, The Standard reported.

While the additional buses are meeting the extra demand, it has not solved the underlying issue of the rising cost of public transit. The Student Administrative Council president told The Standard that the council was forced to cut back service after year-over-year inflationary increases passed on by St. Catharines Transit. This year's 5 percent increase was passed on to students, but did not allow the council to maintain the previous year's services. For the full story, click here.
