Va.'s Blacksburg Transit wins grant to streamline service

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Area officials won a $1.85 million federal grant to find technology capable of streamlining the Blacksburg Transit bus system, which shuttles Virginia Tech students, staff and faculty among more than 400 stops seven days a week, according to the Roanoke Times.

The system, which provided 3.2 million rides last year, is wrestling with high variability in the demand for service. One idea being considered is to point cameras at bus stops that count people. For the full story, click here.
