Calif. high-speed rail to cost $98B

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The AP reported that a draft of the new business plan for California's high-speed rail system shows the project could cost $98.5 billion in inflation-adjusted funding over a 20-year construction period, much higher than the $43 billion projected in 2008.
   
The plan, however, adds that the system would be profitable even with ridership estimates on the lower end and wouldn't require public operating subsidies. For the full story, click here.
