AECOM wins New Orleans streetcar contract

AECOM Technology Corp. was awarded a $10.6-million contract for the second phase of the New Orleans Streetcar Expansion project in the Rampart/St. Claude corridor.

Under the contract, the company will prepare final design documents for the second phase of the expansion, which spans more than a mile of the established Rampart/St. Claude transit corridor in the heart of the city and serves the French Quarter as well as other historic neighborhoods.

AECOM also will provide two environmental assessments for proposed future extensions of the St. Claude line from Elysian Fields Avenue to Poland Avenue and for an extension of the Loyola Line from Loyola Avenue to Carondelet Street on Howard Avenue.

The Loyola Line, which was already under construction before the Rampart/St. Claude expansion was announced, is funded by a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER I) Grant and was designed by AECOM.

AECOM has been involved with this streetcar program since the early master planning stage and played a significant role in the 2002 New Orleans Streetcar Extension on Canal Street. The design of the Loyola Line started in Jan. 2011 with construction scheduled for completion during 2012. The second phase Rampart/St. Claude corridor construction is scheduled for completion during Aug. 2014.
