Hampton Roads to begin airport service pilot
The trial bus service to the Norfolk International Airport will test customer interest in establishing permanent local bus service to one of the region’s major transportation hubs.
Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) will launch a trial bus service to the Norfolk International Airport on Feb. 5 to test customer interest in establishing permanent local bus service to one of the region’s major transportation hubs.
The airport route will serve the arrivals and departures terminals on the hour, connecting customers via Norview Avenue and Tidewater Drive with downtown Norfolk and the Cedar Grove Transfer facility.
The airport stop is located on Arrivals Boulevard near the pedestrian bridge by baggage claim. The route will leave the airport via Norview Avenue and proceed to Tidewater Drive for service to downtown Norfolk. This route also will serve the neighborhoods of Bromley, East Norview, Five Points, Green Hill Farms along Norview Avenue. These communities currently are not served by HRT.
Light rail customers can catch the new service at the bus stop serving the Civic Plaza station on St. Pauls Boulevard.
The airport service is designated Route 7. Each trip will cost $1.50.
The service will run through March 10. Hourly service begins at 5:00 a.m. and operates to 11:47 p.m. It will run seven days a week. After the service ends, HRT will evaluate customer interest and ridership and consider launching permanent local bus service to the airport.
