U. of Ill. approves transit referendum

University of Illinois students approved a referendum with a 69% majority to continue high-frequency and late night Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) service, as well as to augment SafeRides service.

A fourth vehicle will operate on SafeRides on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the fall and spring semester, and service will begin during the fall, winter and spring breaks next year.

MTD said it appreciates the support of the university's students and is excited to continue providing service.
