New Orleans transit tests real-time bus tracking

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) launched a beta version for Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA)/real-time tracking for consumer testing.

With a MyRTA account, riders can subscribe to get real time status updates and alerts delivered to their mobile devices for their preferred routes and transit stops. Along with this subscription service, riders can access ETA status for any stop by viewing an overview map to see approximately where a bus or streetcar is located.  MyRTA subscribers can also download “GTFS Transit Data,” recently made open to the public and now utilized with Google Maps.

The RTA plans to utilize this testing phase to better enhance the quality of the real time data to provide the most accurate information for riders.
