NEW YORK — As part of a legal settlement filed in a Brooklyn federal court, New York Metropolitan Transit Authority (N.Y. MTA) will allow Sikh and Muslim employees to wear religious head coverings while operating buses and railcars, reversing a policy enforced by the transit system following 9/11, Reuters reported.
The settlement resolves a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2004 against the N.Y. MTA. The lawsuit said the policy was not actively enforced until 2002 and was being used to target Sikh and Muslim workers. For the full story, click here.
