Several local, state and federal officials, including Transit Director Kim Turner, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Rep. Janice Hahn (D-CA), were on for the kickoff of
Torrance Transit’s new Rapid bus service and two new routes.
Line 4 will provide express service between the South Bay and downtown Los Angeles, as part of the 11 miles of Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) ExpressLanes on the Harbor (110) Freeway, which are set to open in November. The new ExpressLanes replace the current carpool lanes and allow solo drivers to use them if they pay a toll that varies based on the level of freeway congestion.
The $290 million ExpressLanes project also paid for 59 clean fuel buses like those Torrance Transit is using on the two new routes and 100 van pools.
Meanwhile Line 3 Rapid bus will connect the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach with downtown Long Beach, enabling commuters an easy way to travel between the two cities in less than 40 minutes.
