Bombardier Transportation signed a contract with construction contractor Al Jaber L.E.G.T. Engineering and Contracting (ALEC) L.C.C. to design and build an Innovia APM 300 automated people mover (APM) system for the Dubai International Airport. The transit system will connect the existing Terminal 1 to the new Concourse 4. The contract is valued at approximately $107 million.

The Dubai International Airport is undergoing a massive expansion program that will boost its capacity from 60 million to 90 million passengers per year by 2018. Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects awarded local construction contractor ALEC the contract to build the new Concourse 4 in February 2012 with a build-program of 28 months.

Bombardier is a sub-contractor to ALEC and it will lead the project to design and supply all of the system-wide electrical and mechanical elements of the elevated APM system in a 24-month delivery program.

Bombardier's scope includes 18 Innovia APM 300 cars with Bombardier CityFlo 650 communications-based train control technology for driverless operation. Bombardier will also provide project management, systems engineering and integration, testing and commissioning. Much of the technology will be supplied from Bombardier's facility in Pittsburgh, Pa.
