Richmond, Va.-based James River is extending its safety and training programs by installing seat belts on all of its motorcoaches by Spring 2013; adding a driving simulator; conducting extensive background checks covering national and local databases and pre-employment personality testing to ensure compatibility with corporate values; and adding a customer service training department.
Earlier this year, the federal government mandated that all new buses be equipped with seat belts. The government does not require seat belts for existing buses already in service.
James River had planned the implementation of seat belts for many years, but had to wait for the government’s final rule to ensure correct compliance with the regulations. The company’s smaller buses have been equipped with seat belts for many years.
“We feel it is important for us to set the standard in safety for our passengers. This will ensure all of our buses are consistent, even if purchased before the seat belt law”, said Stephen Story, president, James River Transportation.
James River Transportation is a full service transportation provider and event planning organization with facilities located in Richmond, Williamsburg and Norfolk. The company also has on-site operations at Richmond International Airport and Norfolk International Airport. Services include motorcoach and minicoach transportation, airport transfers, transportation management, contract services and convention shuttles.
