CTA route elimination could impact paratransit

CHICAGO — Ameya Pawar, a Northwest side alderman, has vowed to use surplus funds from a local tax-increment-financing (TIF) district to save a CTA bus route that serves local seniors. The CTA voted to eliminate a dozen bus routes and shorten two others to generate $16 million, reported the Chicago Sun-Times.

The $16 million will be used to add service on 48 bus routes and six rail lines to reduce overcrowding on those popular routes. Pawar said the elimination of the less popular routes will exacerbate paratransit ridership at much greater cost because there are no other options. To read the full story, click here.
