Portland, Maine's Greater Portland Transit District (Metro) selected Gregory M. Jordan to be the transit systems’s new GM.
Jordan has more than 20 years of experience in the transportation industry. Currently, he works as the Deputy Public Works Director for the City of Tempe, Ariz. where he provides leadership and strategic direction for Tempe’s multi-modal transit program. His extensive background working for the City of Tempe includes developing and growing transit systems, fiscal sustainability, advancing transit regionalization and strategic management.
Jordan began his transportation career as a University of Connecticut student bus operator and dispatcher where he also received an undergraduate degree in Political Science. He has completed doctoral coursework and has a Master of Public Administration from Arizona State University.
“Greg has an extensive background dealing with issues facing Metro today — improving rider services, dealing with financial constraints and working with other agencies to regionalize transit operations. He will be a strong leader for Metro and an excellent addition to the transit community regionally,” said board president Bonny Rodden.
Originally from Connecticut, Jordan is looking forward to moving back to New England with his wife and young son. His first day at Metro will be September 3.
With bus ridership averaging 1.4 million annually, Metro is Maine’s largest public transportation carrier.
