Bakersfield, Calif.-based Golden Empire Transit District (GET) awarded New Flyer a contract for 15 Xcelsior compressed natural gas (CNG) heavy-duty buses.
Between 2006 and 2012 New Flyer has built and delivered 70, 40-foot CNG buses for GET Transit, which currently has an active fleet of 88 heavy duty buses.
“We are extremely proud to be a significant part of GET’s commitments to sustainability,” said New Flyer President/CEO Paul Soubry. “We’re also excited about delivering our Xcelsior model to them for the first time as this bus is aligned with GET’s mission statement delivering an accessible, reliable transit.”
The 15 buses are anticipated to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2013 and will be completely manufactured and assembled at New Flyer of America’s St. Cloud, Minn.
