OAKLAND, Calif. — Union leaders told the AP that Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) workers voted overwhelmingly to allow union officials to call a strike if contract negotiations fail.

However, the unions also said that they're committed to negotiating a new contract with BART and have no immediate plans to walk out after their contract expires late Sunday night.

If a strike is called, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission plans to help increase other transportation options such as buses and ferries. For the full story, click here.

Meanwhile, workers at the Oakland, Calif.-based Alameda County Transit (AC Transit) bus system also voted to authorize a strike if the transit agency and union can’t come to an agreement on a new contract, according to the AP. For the full story, click here.
