The Research and Innovative Technology Administration will extend testing of Connected Vehicle technology at the site of the Safety Pilot Model Deployment in Ann Arbor, Mich., for six more months.
Additional tests will allow for further examination of the technology on motorcycles and Vehicle to Infrastructure applications and help inform the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) decision on heavy vehicles in 2014.
During the past year, the test examined the use of connected vehicle technology in light vehicles, including driver acceptance, safety benefits, and overall system reliability and performance.
The extension will not impact the timing of NHTSA’s decision for light vehicles, slated for the end of 2013.
