HARTFORD, Conn. — The AP reported that the parents of a University of Connecticut student killed by a campus shuttle bus in 2011 reached a $5.5 million settlement of their negligence lawsuit against the university and the state. David Plamondon died after being hit in a crosswalk on the Storrs campus by a bus driven by a fellow student.

The driver pleaded no contest to negligent homicide and was sentenced to two years of probation. Police said he was driving under the speed limit, but took his eyes off the road when he waved to another bus driver shortly before the accident.

David Plamondons’ parents asked UConn to stop using students as shuttle bus drivers, but school officials haven’t done so, Michael Walsh, the Plamondons’ attorney, told the AP. For the full story, click here.
