OAKLAND, Calif. — The AP reported that Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) workers walked off the job this morning for the second time in four months. The previous strike took place over four days in July.
The strike is the result of six months of talks in which the transit system and union representatives have been unable to reach a deal.
Roxanne Sanchez, president of Service Employees International Union Local 1021, told the AP that while the unions and BART came "extremely close" to agreement on economic, health care and pension issues, the parties were far apart on work rule issues. For the full story, click here.
