NEW YORK — Bloomberg reported that the Metro-North derailment in New York City that killed four passengers and injured 75 others may persuade Congress to reject legislation that proposes postponing the addition of positive train control (PTC) by five years.

Ross Capon, president of the National Association of Railroad Passengers, told Bloomberg that the deadly collision will likely bolster the efforts to get PTC installed.

The Federal Railroad Administration asked Congress to grant extensions for positive train control on some rail lines and allow alternative technologies, according to a Government Accountability Office report published in August. For the full story, click here.
