GEORGETOWN, Del. — Shailen Bhatt, secretary, Delaware Department of Public Transportation told Cape Gazette that DART First State paratransit fare increases will take place over a three-year period instead of a two-year period as initially planned.
The change is being made in response to public outcry in hearings conducted by Delaware Transit Corp. and Delaware Department of Transportation, saying that the fare hikes were too high and happening too quickly.
Additionally, private transportation providers said that “changes to paratransit fares this fiscal year would create an immediate challenge, since their budgets are already in place,” Bhatt told the paper. For the full story, click here.
