Rail accidents and incidents reached a 10-year low in April 2001, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics said in its monthly Transportation Indicators report. At 1,142 accidents/incidents, that’s a 6% decrease from April 2000. Highway-rail incidents increased 5% to 237 from 225 in April 2000. To see the monthly reports, click on www.bts.com.
