NTSB Rules on 1998 Amtrak Derailment

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concluded that a series of factors, including poor track maintenance and an engineer's failure to alert a dispatcher, caused a 1998 Amtrak derailment. The derailment, in Arlington, Texas, injured 22 and caused $1.4 million in damage to the train and tracks. As one of several safety recommendations, the NTSB want railroads to make sure that dispatchers act immediately when they are alerted to track problems.
