A head-on collision this morning between a commuter train and a freight train killed two and injured 265. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train hit the Metrolink train in Placentia, just south of Los Angeles, buckling and derailing two cars packed with rush hour passengers. Up to 75 passengers were being sent to trauma centers, and the rest were being treated at the scene, reported The Associated Press. Metrolink officials said they didn't know how the two trains wound up on the same track. The National Transportation Safety Board has dispatched officials to the scene. The Metrolink 809 was headed from Riverside to San Juan Capistrano on a route that serves 3,000 passengers per day.
