Construction crews laid the first tracks for a tram that will carry thousands of spectators during the 2004 Olympics in Athens, reported the Associated Press. The 16-mile tram route will connect central Athens to its southern seaside suburbs, where many Olympic sports are to be held, said the AP. The $335.6 million project is to be completed in the spring of 2004 and is being built by the Greek-Italian consortium Terna AE.
