Siemens Transportation won a contract worth an estimated $570 million to supply 56 trains to a consortium comprising British group FirstGroup and the French company Keolis. The consortium will operate the Transpenne rail link in northern England from 2004. The 183-seater trains, which can travel up to 100 mph, are scheduled to come into service in 2006. The order also covers the servicing of the trains and the construction of two depots.
