Eleven years after it was shut down, the historic Overbrook light rail line on Wednesday reopened in Pittsburgh in front of a crowd of about 400.

The Port Authority of Allegheny County invested $386 million in state and federal funds to finish rebuilding the system, which uses futuristic-looking trolleys.

The original line opened in 1893, but was closed in 1993 because of safety concerns related to shoddy tracks, cars, bridges and other structures along the line.

Guests at the reopening ceremony included Bill Millar, president of the American Public Transportation Association, and Jenna Dorn, head of the Federal Transit Administration.
