The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) plans to install more video surveillance cameras in its subway system in hopes of deterring crimes or a potential terrorist attack.

TTC officials refused to say how many would be installed and when, but Toronto police are weighing in on where to place the cameras.

Meanwhile, in Montreal, at least 222 cameras have been installed in and around subways, and the city plans to have another 1,000 up and running by the end of the year, according to the CBC.

Officials from both cities said the installations have nothing to do with last week's subway and transit bus bombings in London.
