MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) awarded a $93 million contract to Wabtec Corp. subsidiary MotivePower Inc. to provide 28 work train locomotives.

The contract also includes an option for 10 additional locomotives.

The trains will be designed to meet NYCT crew safety, low-clearance and weight requirements.

Scheduled for delivery between 2007 and 2009, the locomotives feature Wabtec braking equipment, radiators, microprocessor controls, AC propulsion systems and cabs at both ends.

Work trains are used to haul equipment and crews throughout the subway system.
