Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) received a contract from Metra, Chicago's commuter rail operator, to conduct an alternatives analysis for a 55-mile corridor in the city's surrounding metropolitan area. The project will identify transportation improvements and options for improved access to growing suburban employment locations in congested areas with limited transit services. As prime consultant, PB will manage the project, define the purpose and need for the project, develop base data, develop and evaluate transit operation and facility plans, and identify and evaluate alternatives for both railroad and rights-of-way. Documentation and recommendation of a locally preferred alternative is expected to be substantially completed by the end of 2006.
