New Jersey Gov. John Corzine attended a ceremony this week marking the opening of two new light rail stations for New Jersey Transit Corp.

The stations, in Union City and North Bergen, enable riders to make trips in 15 minutes that previously took an hour or more because of connections.

The Tonnelle Avenue Station in North Bergen also opened a 730-space park-and-ride lot, which will offer free parking until May.

The Bergenline Avenue Station in Union City is located in a tunnel with express elevators that take riders to multiple platforms.

“This light rail system is improving the quality of life for thousands of New Jersey residents,” said Corzine of the five-year-old rail network.
