The City of Cincinnati has selected HDR to complete a study on the feasibility of using streetcars to link the riverfront and downtown business district with adjoining neighborhoods. The study, which will examine possible streetcar alignments, including a review of projected construction costs, operating costs, ridership forecasts, estimated economic development benefits and potential financing, will be completed in May. The HDR team on this study also includes local Cincinnati staff from Parsons Brinckerhoff as a subcontractor. In addition to providing an alternative means of transit circulation and mobility, streetcar systems are now more widely recognized for their contributions to local economies, by supporting and promoting economic and community development in specific corridors.
