West Covina, Calif.-based Foothill Transit's newly launched Silver Streak bus rapid transit service is now equipped with Parvus Corporation’s RiderNet passenger Internet access solution. Running from Montclair to Los Angeles, Silver Streak's 60-foot articulated buses provide high-speed 802.11 Wi-Fi service free of charge to customers using any Wi-Fi-enabled laptop or PDA while they travel to their destination. Launched on March 18, Foothill Transit's 40-mile Silver Streak line integrates "SMARTBus" technologies, including automatic passenger counters, GPS vehicle locating system, high definition onboard security cameras and digital destination signs. Foothill Transit contracted with Parvus for the equipment, installation and airtime, as well as content filtering, system monitoring and phone support service to implement access on the Silver Streak line.
