ARINC Inc. is designing and installing video monitoring equipment for the Maryland Transit Administration’s rail lines in selected stations of the Baltimore Light Rail System, the Baltimore Metro Subway and the MARC train service.

The cameras will focus on rail station platforms, surrounding areas and valuable equipment. The video analytics software is able to recognize events such as intrusion or someone placing a suspicious package on the premises, and the system can save captured images for future analysis.

Operators can view a map of the system, navigate through various levels to select a camera to view on the main screen, and choose additional cameras to view simultaneously.

The contract, partially funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is expected to be completed in early 2008.
