Ansaldo STS has signed a contract with Metropolitana di Napoli SpA, an agency of the Naples local authority, for the design and construction of electronic equipment on the Piazza Dante-Piazza Garibaldi stretch of Line 1 of the Naples metro.

The contract is worth $69.7 million.

Ansaldo STS will carry out works relating to the overhead line, power cables, telecommunications, signaling, automation and protection systems on the 3.1-mile stretch of track constructed entirely in double tunnels.

The project is scheduled to be completed by July 2012. Ansaldo STS's work is part of the fourth applications contract for the construction of Line 1 of the Naples metro.
