NEW YORK — The New York Times reports that an investigation by the inspector general of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority shows that safety workers at New York City Transit falsified thousands of inspections of the track signals that direct trains in the subway system. Workers claimed the signals were safe even though they had never inspected them. In response, the transit agency reassigned the manager in charge of overseeing signal maintenance.
