BART shutdown reveals system flaws

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Bay Area Rapid Transit District’s (BART) system-wide shutdown on Monday, due to the failure of two data devices to work together, illustrates that the transit system's modernization needs are substantial, SFGate reported. BART officials have said that the system needs $15 billion in upgrades over the next 25 years, but only about half of the funding is lined up. For the full story, click here.
