Calif. HSR experts propose shared tracks

PALO ALTO, Calif. — A proposal to combine high-speed rail and Caltrain on the San Francisco Bay Area peninsula gained traction last week when a panel of experts retained by the California High-Speed Rail Authority backed the idea, Palo Alto online reported.

The experts changed their focus from the “full build” approach, which would separate tracks, saying that demand would not be high enough to require it. The “shared tracks” approach would put off the need for greater investment until demand has been demonstrated. For the full story, click here.
