BOSTON — The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority set a record for ridership over its 47-year history, with 1.35 million trips on an average weekday, eclipsing a previous high of 1.34 million in September 2008, boston.com reported.
The agency attributed the increase to higher gas prices and employment numbers. Meanwhile, the agency is considering a fare increase and service cuts in an effort to close a projected $161 million deficit for the coming year. For the full story, click here.
